Researching the Best Bicycle Speakers
The research phase is the most important part of the process.
It’s when you decide on the most important features and benefits of your bicycle speaker.
As an example, let’s pretend that you’ll ride through a loud neighborhood during a portion of your daily bike rides. If the noise levels are too high, you might have a tough time hearing the audio emanating from your bike speaker. You’ll want to focus on speakers with loud audio so you can continue to hear it over the background noise.
During this review, I’ll focus on reviewing speakers with high decibel levels, long battery life, accessories for outdoor use, portable chargers, and built-in microphones. I’ll also cover waterproofing, bike mounts, Bluetooth quality, stereo sound, best for bass, and best overall performance.
I also like to mention one or two negatives to keep these reviews fair and balanced. As we all know, nothing is ever perfect in life and bike speakers have their ups and downs. I will point out potential problems and my thoughts about each possible issue.
Keep reading to learn about 9 excellent bike speakers, and learn the best choices in five categories including best overall, best Bluetooth, best for bass, best mounted speaker, and best waterproof.
The Best Bicycle Speakers
1. Bose SoundLink Micro Bicycle Speakers – Best Overall
The Bose SoundLink Micro Bicycle Speaker is the best overall choice for a number of reasons. It has crisp and balanced sound, IPX7 waterproof rating, built-in microphone, and powerful bass, which delivers a pleasurable listening experience.
✔️ What we like: Waterproof is high quality, portable, and rechargeable battery
❌ What we don’t like: Bluetooth connection difficulties, must download the app and give credit card
- Balanced and crisp sound quality
- Bass is heavy and booming
- IPX7 waterproof rated speaker
- Conference call capable within 30 feet
- Rechargeable battery 6 hours playtime
This is the ideal speaker to take with you on your bicycle no matter where you intend to go. And it’s a great option to have if you plan to ride through the park, stop for a picnic, or spend time soaking up the sun on the beach.
The Bluetooth connectivity is out of this world. It will connect to nearly every Bluetooth device without difficulty. And the sound quality, the pounding bass, and the loud and clear audio make it the best choice for anyone who loves outdoor activities or spending time in nature.
One reviewer didn’t appreciate the fact that he had to download Bose’s app in order to make the Bluetooth work. Or so he’s says. I don’t remember having this problem, but I may be remembering wrong. Either way, having to download an app to use Bluetooth isn’t the nicest tactic in the world, I must admit.
You’ll fall in love with the Bose SoundLink Micro Bicycle Speaker because of its powerful and clear sound, its portability, and the loud and easy to hear audio.
Plus, it doubles as a conference speakerphone if you connect it to your phone, which makes it even more awesome.
2. Zealot S1 Bluetooth Bicycle Speaker – Best Bluetooth
The Zealot S1 Bluetooth Bicycle Speaker was awarded the best Bluetooth speaker because of the amazing sound quality it possesses and much more. It mounts directly to your bicycle, it has a large, long lasting battery, and it fits in the palm of your hand.
✔️ What we like: 24 hours of battery life, 4000mAh rechargeable battery
❌ What we don’t like: Light on the bass and smaller than pictured
- Bike mount and carabiner
- USB port for backup power supply
- Audio Cable
- 24 hours of battery life
- LED torch light w SOS flashing
These speakers really excel for a few reasons. The best and most important reason is their Bluetooth capabilities, which is why they lead this category in my opinion.
The device has been equipped with the latest Bluetooth CSR, which makes it an above average choice for powerful bass, passive subwoofer performance and the timbre of the sound is stunning to say the least.
It also comes equipped with a Neodymium amplifier. This creates loud but very attractive audio, which is perfect for those who intend to take this speaker when they go outdoors. It can get loud and hard to hear if you’re in a well populated area, but this speaker will cut through the clutter and background noise without difficulty.
One reviewer wasn’t happy because the speaker is actually smaller than pictured, or so he says. It’s small but it isn’t ridiculously tiny. And it’s wonderful because you stuff it in your pocket once you’re done using it.
Another reviewer didn’t like the quality of the bass. I personally didn’t notice this problem so he may have had a defective speaker. The manufacturer will usually replace it if you bought it broken, so look into an exchange if this happens to you.
Lastly, I appreciate the Zealot S1 Bluetooth Bicycle Speaker because of its excellent outdoor accessories, its strong and stunning audio, and the 24 hours of battery life, which is truly phenomenal.
3. Bugani M99 Portable Bluetooth Speaker – Best for Bass
The Bugani M99 Portable Bluetooth Speaker is a fan favorite because of its powerful and stunning bass capabilities, which is why it won top prize in this category. It also has Bluetooth 5.0, an advanced digital audio processor, superior sound quality, and much more.
✔️ What we like: Advanced digital audio processor, 100 feet Bluetooth range
❌ What we don’t like: Too loud and poor sound quality
- Bicycle standing mount and bracket
- Dual subwoofers and dual drivers
- Deep bass sound
- Bluetooth 5.0
- Built-in microphone
The reason this speaker is amazing is the Bluetooth range. You’ll have a hard time finding a speaker with Bluetooth connectivity that works around 100 feet away from the audio device. At best, you’ll typically find speakers with a 30 feet range, which means this bicycle speaker’s connection range is more than 3 times as powerful.
Do you enjoy listening to audiobooks? Or do you like to follow along to an audio or video yoga meditation? Or maybe you like to listen to your favorite podcast while doing housework?
Either way, this speaker is much more than a simple device to mount on your bicycle, although it does a great job in that regard. In fact, this portable gem is ideal for any situation where you’d prefer listening to something instead of the hollow silence permeating the background of your life.
Nothing is ever perfect as we all know. This speaker, according to one reviewer, is too loud as if that could ever be an actual problem! Although because it’s so loud, he said the audio was distorted. This sounds like a defective speaker more than anything else. He should let the manufacturer know and take advantage of their warranty to get a new one.
Besides the stuff already mentioned, the Bugani M99 Portable Bluetooth Speaker is a fine choice for a bicycle speaker because of the dual drivers, dual subwoofers, the strong bass, and overall quality hi-fi sound.
And the built-in microphone is a nice added touch too.
4. CLEARON Portable Bluetooth Waterproof Speaker – Best Mounted Speaker
The CLEARON Portable Bluetooth Waterproof Speaker is a step above the rest because of its 360 degree sound, the powerful and satisfying bass, and the rock solid, durable, and resistant bicycle mount, which is why we designated it the best mounted speaker.
✔️ What we like: Built-in MP3 player and FM radio, 12 hours of playtime
❌ What we don’t like: Faulty battery has trouble holding its charge
- Hands-free calling w/ built-in mic
- Micro SD card slot
- Bluetooth 4.0
- 100 feet of connectivity
- Durable and wear-resistant bike mount
I really like this bicycle speaker because it’s waterproof, so you can bring it wherever you go and never have to worry about having it break if you ever get caught in a torrential rainstorm. It will withstand the assault of water, or dropping it in the bathtub, or accidentally letting it slip into the swimming pool.
Besides that, it’s also a great choice because it utilizes Max Bass hi-fi technology, which means the sound is powerful and crystal clear. It also has 360° surround, with four speakers on one side of the device and four speakers on the other side, which enhances the overall listening experience whether you’re indoors or outdoors.
One reviewer was upset because the battery wouldn’t hold its charge, so he had to constantly keep it plugged in in order to get the speaker to work. Obviously this isn’t a good thing if you plan on mounting it to your bicycle since you aren’t going to have an outlet handy while riding around.
To me, it seems like the device was faulty and it needs to be replaced. It may just be a matter of replacing the rechargeable battery. If they send it back to the manufacturer, they would likely send them a new one.
All in all, the CLEARON Portable Bluetooth Waterproof Speaker is an excellent choice and the best mounted speaker because it’s dustproof, steam proof, shockproof, and water resistant. And it’s available in three colors including black, blue, or camouflage.
5. BassPal Portable Wireless Bicycle Speaker – Best Waterproof
The BassPal Portable Wireless Bicycle Speaker will totally impress you with its waterproof capabilities, and I’ve designated it as the best in this category. It has a gorgeous multifunctional LED display, built-in FM radio mode, IPX7 waterproof rating and much more.
✔️ What we like: Check time and battery life on LED display, loud hi-fi stereo sound
❌ What we don’t like: The instructions are difficult to read and understand
- Bluetooth 5.0
- 66 feet of operating distance
- 730 MAH battery capacity
- Built-in microphone
- 8 hours of playback time
Do you enjoy going for long bicycle rides in the rain? Some people may think that you’re a bit off if you like to ride around and get soaking wet. But some people enjoy these long and rainy bike rides and they want to listen to music while they are at it.
You’ll need a waterproof speaker to listen to and appreciate your favorite music. I believe this model from BassPal is the best option because it has excellent waterproof capabilities and a stunning IPX7 waterproof technology rating.
The speaker also provides 3-D stereo sound, a true wireless stereo experience, and it connects directly to other Bluetooth devices so you can play your favorite MP3s, videos, and audiobooks directly through this speaker. The 360º high definition surround sound eliminates distortion, allows you to pump up the volume with crystal-clear audio, and it’s ideal whether using it indoors or outdoors.
One downside is the instruction manual. Reviewers unfortunately complained that they had a difficult time reading and understanding the instructions. This made it hard to use all of the great features, program the clock, or even shut off the speaker itself.
Besides the one negative, the BassPal Portable Wireless Bicycle Speaker is the perfect choice because it has eight hours of playback time, is fully charged within two hours, has a built-in microphone, uses Bluetooth 5.0, and is built to withstand the wildest torrential downpours.
6. Onforu Portable Bluetooth Speaker
The Onforu Portable Bluetooth Speaker will captivate your senses and make your bicycle riding experience much more enjoyable when your favorite songs are permeating through your Bluetooth speaker. Its compact 3.24 inches design means you can carry it anywhere, plus it has 10 hours of playback time, IPX7 waterproof rating, and a cycling mount.
✔️ What we like: Mini Bluetooth speaker design, and high-capacity lithium battery
❌ What we don’t like: Speaker broke after a light rain
- Bluetooth 5.0
- 3.24 inches mini Bluetooth speaker
- 2.5 to 3 hours of charging time
- 10 hours of battery life
- IPX7 waterproof rating
This bicycle speaker is an excellent choice because you have options as to whether you want to mount it onto your handlebars or clip it onto your person. The manufacturer gives you a clip and a mount when you purchase the speaker. So you can clip it onto your backpack or connect it to your bicycle and listen to your favorite music, audiobooks, or podcasts while on the go.
It’s also an excellent choice because of the long playback time. In fact, after charging the speaker for 2 ½ to 3 hours, you’ll be able to use it for 10 hours straight without the battery going dead.
This is awesome if you plan on going on a long road trip or bicycling through woods without the ability to recharge the battery for a long time. It will keep working for the duration of your trip as long as it ends less than 10 hours from the start.
One reviewer had an adverse experience in the rain. He said that he was using his speaker while it was raining and not long afterward the speaker completely died out on him. He blames the light rain and said the waterproof speaker didn’t withstand getting wet.
While this sounds true, it’s possible that it was a defective device to begin with since there aren’t other complaints in this regard.
All things considered, the Onforu Portable Bluetooth Speaker is a wise choice at an affordable price. It comes fully equipped with a cycling mount, a clip, a rechargeable battery, a Bluetooth 5.0 speaker, and a USB charging cable.
All of this combines to a great deal at a low price.
7. Avantree Portable Bluetooth 5.0 Bike Speaker
The Avantree Portable Bluetooth 5.0 Bike Speaker is in a class by itself with 10 W of powerful sound booming out of two 5 W dual speakers. It also radiates passive bass, it’s perfect for cycling, it’s waterproof, and it has a 24 month warranty.
✔️ What we like: Bluetooth connectivity, portable audio, three playing modes
❌ What we don’t like: The sound quality isn’t the greatest
- 5 W dual speakers
- IPX4 waterproof, splash proof, and shockproof rating
- 24 month warranty and ongoing support
- 3 player modes
- Additional micro SD/TF card slot
The best thing about this speaker is that it’s actually two speakers rolled into one. The device has a total of two 5 W speakers that systematically create a rich bass experience. You’ll be able to hear these powerful little speakers even in the noisiest settings, so if you bring them to the beach, to a live sporting event, or anywhere else with a lot of people you’ll still hear your favorite songs or audio programs without fail.
Even better, you can use this speaker in three different playing modes. If you need to plug the speaker into your portable audio player, then by all means use the AUX cord. Alternatively if you want to connect it to a Bluetooth device, you can certainly do so and enjoy crystal-clear audio at the same time. Or if you would like to play audio from your microSD or TF card, you can do so and play your music directly through the speaker without the need to connect another device to enhance your listening pleasure.
One angry reviewer said the sound of the audio coming out of his speaker was awful. He didn’t think it measured up to some of the other higher-quality portable speakers out there. While this may be true in his experience, it doesn’t seem like a major complaint across the board. So it might not be as bad as this one reviewer tells us it is.
More than anything else, the Avantree Portable Bluetooth 5.0 Bike Speaker is great because it’s an NFC enabled speaker, has 24 months of warranty and ongoing support, and an IPX4 splash proof, shockproof, and waterproof rating, which makes this a great speaker in my book.
8. CLEARON Wireless Speaker with Bike Mount
- HIGH-QUALITY SOUND – 8W powered (4x2) 360° degree surround sound, extremely loud and clear high quality sound with plenty of bass from a compact lightweight speaker.
The CLEARON Wireless Speaker with Bike Mount is the perfect choice because it delivers high quality sound that you can hear over the wind, it connects via 3.5 mm cable and Bluetooth, and it has a built-in FM radio too.
✔ What we like: Remote control and microSD card slot
❌ What we don’t like: Bluetooth connectivity is choppy
👌 Standout Features:
- 100-foot range
- Mounts to multiple structures
- Durable design
- IPX4 water resistance
- Bluetooth 4.0 wireless
You’ll appreciate the CLEARON Wireless Speaker with Bike Mount for a wide array of reasons. But to start things off, I want you to know that this is a multifunctional speaker.
You can connect it via Bluetooth 4.0, 3.5 mm cable, play the FM radio if you’re looking to catch the news or your favorite top 40 station, or you can even play audio via a microSD card placed in the card slot. Clearly, this speaker does it all.
But best of all, the speaker is easily mounted directly to your bicycle, folding chair, backpack, boat, or motor vehicle. You can literally take this wherever you need to go, and because it’s so versatile, it will hold up beautifully and play amazing quality audio of your favorite music, audiobooks, and more.
One customer had an unfortunate experience with this wireless speaker that I’d like to tell you about. After she connected the speaker to her phone via Bluetooth, she said that the audio was very choppy and frequently garbled. She often kept the speaker connected while she was riding her mountain bike, so it’s possible she lost her signal while riding around in the woods or another secluded area.
Overall, I think you’ll like the CLEARON Wireless Speaker with Bike Mount because the speaker has multi-functions, a built-in microphone, it has Bluetooth 4.0, a slot for microSD cards, an FM radio, and you can even connect it to other devices via 3.5 mm audio cable.
9. BOOMER VIVI Outdoor Speaker
The BOOMER VIVI Outdoor Speaker is loved by many because of its FM radio support, TF card music playback, and its excellent bicycle mounting capabilities. It also has long battery life, Bluetooth connectivity, and a wide range of other great features.
✔️ What we like: 15 hours of battery life, TF card playback, and wireless speaker
❌ What we don’t like: Not loud enough or clear enough
- FM radio/TF card music support
- 2000 MAH rechargeable battery
- 6 W power output
- 33 feet Bluetooth connectivity range
- USB cable and bicycle mount
This is an excellent speaker for anyone looking to enjoy audio while spending time in the outdoors. It’s particularly nice because it has a mounting fixture that you can secure directly to the handlebars of your bicycle, which will keep you connected to your favorite Bluetooth music and hands-free phone calls as you ride around town, ride through bike or hiking trails, or just enjoy a leisurely bike ride throughout your community.
The truly exciting thing about this speaker is if you’re playing music from the TF card, your battery life will last for more than 15 hours. Even better, it also acts as a backup power supply, so if your phone or another device runs out of power, you can borrow some juice from this speaker to get a quick recharge for your other devices.
The only negative is one reviewer felt that the speaker wasn’t loud enough. He was listening to it while riding around on his bicycle and he said that he couldn’t hear the audio clearly. This is unfortunate for him but it doesn’t seem to be a problem for other reviewers because there haven’t been too many complaints about the speaker audio being too low.
Other interesting and exciting reasons to own the BOOMER VIVI Outdoor Speaker is because it’s perfect for camping, hiking, cycling, and all kinds of outdoor sports because it shockproof, waterproof, and dustproof. So you could accidentally drop it on the ground and get it covered in dust and it will not break the device.
Also if you submerge it in small amounts of water and the speaker will continue to work.
A Guide to Choosing the Best Bicycle Speakers
Are you thinking about buying bicycle speakers in the near future? If so, you’d benefit a great deal from the recommendations mentioned above. I did my best to find the perfect speakers in a number of categories including the best overall, the best Bluetooth, the best for bass, the best mounted speakers, and the best waterproof speakers. But if you do not like my choices, you may want to look for a new speaker yourself.
If this is the case, then you’ll need to look into certain key areas to make sure you’re buying a high quality device. In fact, as far as bicycle speakers go, it would make sense to look for a device that is waterproof, dustproof, and shockproof. You also want one that can mount directly to your bicycle. And there are other factors to consider as well that I’ll go into greater detail about below.
Connectivity is critical when out on the road and riding around town on your bicycle. If you plan on listening to audio from your Bluetooth device, you’ll need a speaker with excellent connectivity capabilities. Otherwise it might not be able to successfully pair with your audio device. Or it may not be able to stream music from your specific audio player, which would be a real shame because it’s the reason you’re making this investment in the first place.
So pay close attention to Bluetooth speakers with high connectivity ratings. Ideally the speaker will contain Bluetooth 4.0 or Bluetooth 5.0 or greater, because these ranges have the best connectivity and streaming capabilities.
Battery longevity is another critical feature that must be considered at all costs. Why? If the battery stinks, it’s going to run out on you very quickly and you won’t be able to enjoy your favorite music or audio book for a very long time. It may take hours for you to get home and recharge your battery again, and by that point your whole day will be ruined.
So look for speakers that have long battery life, ideally within the 8 to 15 hour range. This way you’ll be able to go for long bicycle rides and still be able to listen to your favorite audio MP3s, radio stations, or audiobooks without any interruptions whatsoever.
Stereo Quality Sound
Sound quality is the final area to consider and it’s just as important as or even more important than some of the other things mentioned above. Why? Without stereo quality sound, your music may sound tinny, flat, or it might be very difficult to hear the audio coming out of the speakers. Obviously sound quality is of the utmost importance because it could make or break your listening experience.
When buying Bluetooth bicycle speakers, make sure the device has an excellent stereo sound quality rating from multiple reviewers.
