Researching Over Ear Headphones Under $200 In2024
Performing research for the best over ear headphones less than $200 potentially has its ups and downs but I’ve researched products like this for many years so I know what to look for.
I know what you want and need as a consumer and I endeavor to only review the best products that have all of the most important elements that you could want. In this particular case, I’m talking about over ear headphones and the best bells and whistles currently available.
To make a long story short, I’d like to point out that I always base my product recommendations on a few key areas. Sound quality is of the utmost importance, because without high quality sound you may as well throw your headset in the garbage.
Comfort is also incredibly significant. You can have the best sound quality in the world, but if the headphones aren’t comfortable, you aren’t going to use them for very long because they’ll hurt or irritate you too much.
I also like to focus on the latest technological advances. As an example, if I’m reviewing wireless headphones, I like to make sure the product incorporates the latest Bluetooth technology. I also like to look for other valuable features like multiple pairing, battery life, weight, and more.
The Best Over Ear Headphones Under $200 In2024
1. Beats Studio3 Over-Ear Headphones – Very Popular
- High-performance wireless noise cancelling headphones
The Beats Studio3 Over-Ear Headphones are a big favorite of mine because they are inexpensive and cost less than $200, they have a long battery life thats last for up to 22 hours, they have a built-in microphone, an audio chip, noise cancelling capabilities, and they are also wireless.
✔️ What we like: Built-in microphone
❌ What we don’t like: Battery life didn’t last as long as expected
Standout Features
- Noise cancellation features
- 22 hours of battery life
- Bluetooth technology
- 10-minute fast charge
- Lithium-ion battery
Even though Apple currently owns this company, the Beats Studio3 Over-Ear Headphones are compatible with iOS and Android devices. I really appreciate this fact because although I own an iPad, I also own an android phone and I would have avoided them altogether if I couldn’t use them on all my devices. But since they are compatible with both types, I didn’t have any problem connecting to all my electronics via Bluetooth.
Speaking of Bluetooth, the connectivity is second to none. It connects via Bluetooth using Apple’s W1 chip, which is amazing technology because it’s currently considered one of the leading Bluetooth options. The best part is that you can walk really far away from your device and it will still remain connected. This is great because dropouts can get really annoying after a while, but thankfully it doesn’t happen too often because the Bluetooth connection capabilities are off the charts.
My least favorite thing to read about this headset is the occasional person having battery life difficulties. If this ever happens to you, it likely has nothing to do with the quality of the headphones themselves and everything to do with the quality of the battery that they installed. You should try to install a new battery or find out if Apple will send you a new pair of headphones to fix the problem. Because crappy battery life really isn’t your fault and you shouldn’t be penalized for it.
When all is said and done, the Beats Studio3 Over-Ear Headphones are incredibly impressive for many reasons as we’ve already discussed. But in particular, the real-time audio calibration, the pure ANC technology, the fast 10-minute charging, the lithium-ion battery, and the 22 minutes of battery life are all really great reasons to love these headphones created by Beats.
2. Skullcandy Crusher Over-Ear Headphones – Best Overall
- This product is not eligible for manufacturer's warranty.
The Skullcandy Crusher Over-Ear Headphones are a wonderful choice because they have adjustable sensory bass, connectivity that makes it possible to customize and personalize your sound, and extra-long battery life.
✔️ What we like: 41 hours of battery life
❌ What we don’t like: Uncomfortable ergonomic headphone design
Standout Features
- Built-in tile finding technology
- 10-minute quick charging
- Crusher bass
- Personalized sound
- Outer controls on headphones
It’s hard not to love the Skullcandy Crusher Over-Ear Headphones in all of its iterations. There are a number of different types including the Wireless, Evo, and ANC models. Depending on your needs, you can take full advantage of the active noise cancellation technology or you can choose to go with the less expensive model that has lower battery life but many of the same wonderful features.
In my personal opinion, I am a huge fan of the 41 hours of battery life available with the Evo and ANC models. Even better, it also has four-hour quick charging capabilities. Just plug the USB-C cable in for 10 minutes and you can charge your headphones long enough to get an additional four hours of battery life. This is great if you need to quickly charge your headphones in a pinch, because this extra battery life will last for quite a while.
One thing that I didn’t like is the headband itself is not very comfortable according to one previous user. I didn’t experience this discomfort myself, but she was really unhappy with the overall design. She said there were two bumps in the center of the headset that pushed down on the top of her head and felt really tight and out of place.
Maybe my head is bigger or smaller than hers, because the bumps didn’t actually seem to bother me at all, but to each their own. In the end, the Skullcandy Crusher Over-Ear Headphones are an excellent choice because of all the wonderful features they possess. The flat folding and collapsible design make it easy to carry them with you. The quick charging USB-C cable is amazing when you need to charge your headset in a flash.
And you can’t go wrong with more than 40 hours of battery life keeping your headset alive, well, and kicking for an extra-long time.
3. Sony WH-XB910N Over-Ear Headset
- Dual Noise Cancelling for intense music.Specific uses for product : Travel.Impedance (Ohm) : 48 ohm. Effective Range : 10m.
The Sony WH-XB910N Over-Ear Headset truly surpassed all my expectations. It has extra bass for deep and punchy sounds, it’s wireless and loaded with dual noise cancelling technology, and you can recharge it in minutes and listen to music all day with headset all day without running out of battery life which is exciting to say the least.
✔️ What we like: Effortlessly switch between devices
❌ What we don’t like: It does not have Bluetooth connectivity
Standout Features
- Available in black and blue colors
- Effective over-ear headphones
- Wireless connectivity
- Dual noise cancelling
- Outer controls on ear pad
One of my favorite things about the Sony WH-XB910N Over-Ear Headset is the placement and design of the outer controls on the ear pad. It’s a simple four arrow control pad that allows you to change tracks, adjust the volume, and even switch over to phone calls and music at the swipe of a finger or the tap of a button.
It can get really frustrating and annoying having to constantly take your phone out of your pocket to make these adjustments so having these controls on the headphones is really cool and convenient.
Like the song goes, I’m all about that bass! And so are these headphones because they have an Extra Bass feature, which is truly outstanding. The bass is deep, punchy, and it delivers a hard-hitting sound. It’s exactly how I like to hear certain types of music, so I like having the ability to experience these bass filled musical listening sessions at the touch of a button whenever I’m in the mood.
Unfortunately, the biggest mistake that Sony made is they made wireless these wireless headphones without Bluetooth connectivity. At this stage of the game, everybody uses Bluetooth to connect to their devices wirelessly.
For some reason, they decided to go a different route and they used a completely different wireless connection type that didn’t seem to impress too many people, which is unfortunate because these headphones are pretty fantastic if you ask me.
Barring the lack of Bluetooth, the Sony WH-XB910N Over-Ear Headset is truly amazing because they have quick attention mode, fingertip ready controls, digital sound enhancement engine capabilities to boost your favorite music, hands-free calling, and it even connects to the Sony Headphones Connect App.
4. Zihnic Bluetooth Over-Ear Headphones
- 【ASTONISHING SOUND PRODUCTION 】: High Definition Stereo Headphones, specially developed software and noise reduction technology designed to prevent you from heating ambient noises and makes you...
The Zihnic foldable wirelesses over ear headphones are inexpensive, attractive, and have some of the top features available for these headsets today. The sound production is astonishing, they were built with complete comfort in mind, they offer a seamless Bluetooth connection, and the ergonomic design, long battery life, and 14 hours of nonstop playtime make them an absolute steal below $30.
✔️ What we like: Available in seven colors, great sound production, comfortable
❌ What we don’t like: Charging difficulties and broken headband
Standout Features
- Multifunction controls
- USB charging port
- Wireless headset with wired backup
- Soft memory foam ear cups
- Seamless Bluetooth connectivity
I appreciate the over ear headphones from Zihnic for many reasons, but I specifically enjoy the high definition stereo headphones and the amazing sounds that they produce. They utilize noise reduction technology and software that blocks out ambient noises. This allows you to focus much better on your radio programs, podcasts, and music selections. You can immerse yourself directly into your music at low volumes and still hear the audio with crystal clarity.
Even more important, this set of headphones was designed to provide maximum levels of comfort while wearing them. They created earmuffs that match intimately with the texture of your skin, which leads to a pleasurable and comfortable experience whether you have these headphones on for minutes or hours at a time.
The headphones are also stretchable and foldable, which means they’ll fit on the top of your head and mold to your skull for maximum comfort. The fact that they are foldable means that they’re easy to transport in your pocket, in a purse, or in a small backpack without any difficulty whatsoever.
They’re available in seven colors including rose gold, black/gray, deep black, black/blue01, black/red01, black/green and black-orange. So you’ll never run out of color options and these headsets are ideal for men, women, teens, and kids.
One reviewer of the Zihnic Bluetooth Over-Ear Headphones was concerned because his headband broke relatively quickly within a matter of months of owning them. Another reviewer said that after six months she could no longer charge the headset battery. These issues seem like outliers and definitely not the norm, but things like this happen and you should know about them.
5. Sony WHCH700N Wireless Bluetooth Headset
- Digital Noise Cancelling: Blocks Out Distracting Background Noise for a Better Music Experience
The WHCH700N wireless headset is impressive with its Alexa voice control, over the air headset, and noise cancellation capabilities. It also utilizes hands-free calling, 35 hours of wireless playback time, 10 minute quick charge, and a built-in microphone to enhance productivity.
✔️ What we like: Wireless connectivity via Bluetooth, digital noise cancellation features
❌ What we don’t like: Cheap material and poor sound quality
Standout Features
- Digital voice assistance enabled by Alexa
- Built-in microphone
- Digital noise cancellation technology
- Quick connectivity with tablets and computers for distance learning
- Hands-free calling
I’m a big fan of the Sony WHCH700N headset for a number of reasons because it has many wonderful features. Most of all, it comes from a trusted provider of digital products, so you know you’re buying from a company with a great reputation that you can count on and this makes a big difference.
The hands-free calling capabilities are always nice to have. With the built-in microphone, you can use your voice assistant, make telephone calls to friends and loved ones, or answer phone calls on the fly. It’s great if you’re using this headset in the car because you can talk to your employees, employer, or anyone else without interrupting your focus while driving.
Distance learning has never been more important than ever. This headset is perfect for distance learning because it easily connects with most learning devices including tablets, Macs, laptops, PCs, and more. Plus, your kids can use it whenever they need to take a quick movie or music break and enjoy wonderful stereo quality sound emanating from their attractive yet very affordable headset.
Unfortunately, nothing is ever perfect and even this Sony WHCH700N Wireless Bluetooth headset has its problems from time to time. One reviewer complained that the material was cheap and ripped too easily. Another reviewer said the headset emanated poor sound quality. These seem like isolated incidents since thousands of other reviewers never made these complaints.
6. Jabra Elite Over-Ear Bluetooth Headphones – Highly Rated
- BLOCK UNWANTED BACKGROUND NOISE: Jabra Elite 85h Wireless Headphones are engineered for the best wireless calls and music experience with SmartSound; Smart Active Noise cancellation responds to the...
The Jabra Elite Over-Ear Bluetooth Headphones are extraordinary because they’re water resistant, android and iPhone compatible, have a built-in microphone, long battery life, and they are fully equipped with wireless noise cancelling technology.
✔️ What we like: Noise cancelling blocks unwanted background noise
❌ What we don’t like: Aren’t compatible with PC computers
Standout Features
- 36 hours of battery life
- Active noise cancelling headphones
- Smartsound audio
- 5 hours fast charging capabilities
- 8 built-in microphones
I personally appreciate that I can use these headphones when I make phone calls and the audio quality is so crystal-clear that it’s hard to match it up against any other headset. They put eight microphones inside to improve call quality and block out wind and other background noise. This makes the sound so perfect that it’s easy for anyone to receive phone calls while they’re on the go with complete confidence because they’ll hear every word said by the person on the other end of the line.
Even better, I swear that I’m such a big fan of the long-lasting battery that they happily installed in these headphones. On a full charge, you can use this battery without charging it again for 36 straight hours even when you have the active noise cancelling switched on, which is practically unprecedented. You get so much life out of this battery that it almost seems like you’ll never need to charge it again!
On the other side of the spectrum, I have to mention something that I find a little bit disappointing, but at the same time, it’s certainly not the end of the world. I wanted to connect these headphones to my PC via Bluetooth and I could not get the connection to establish.
This isn’t the first time that this problem ever happened because I’ve read about other users having the same level of difficulty that I did. For whatever reason, these headphones weren’t created to connect with PCs and other computer devices, which is unfortunate and certainly on the disappointing side.
All in all, I’m proud to say that the Jabra Elite Over-Ear Bluetooth Headphones definitely passed all of my tests because they are truly phenomenal and extraordinary headphones. Right from the beginning, I learned immediately that I can wear them outside in the rain or sunshine because they were made using water resistant technology which protects the headphones and the internal components inside.
They’re also Bluetooth enabled and you can connect them to most Bluetooth devices, they have eight built-in microphones for unmatched call quality, the battery is insanely effective and lasts for 36 hours, and the ANC blocks all unwanted background noise from your awareness.
A Guide to Choosing the Best Over Ear Headphones Under $200
At times you may decide that you’d rather choose your own over ear headphones under $200 because you’d like to pick them out yourself. That’s great if you aspire to make your own choice. But do you know what you’re looking for? Are you prepared to fully evaluate each set of headphones to make sure they measure up to the best?
It may seem easy to properly review and evaluate headphones on the surface, but you categorically need to know what to look for. When I review these products, I always make sure they have the latest noise canceling capabilities, long battery life, hands-free controls, stereo quality sound, and more.
Would you like to know why I look for these things? Keep reading to discover the truth.
Noise Cancellation Capabilities
This should be a no-brainer because headsets with the latest noise canceling technology are an absolute must. Why? If you have outside noise bleeding into your listening experience, it ultimately ruins the music, podcast, or movie or TV show audio.
Instead of having an enjoyable experience, the bleed through will make it hard to hear. You’ll find it challenging to listen to what the actors are saying or you’ll have trouble understanding the lyrics of the music. This is unacceptable so you must find a headset with awesome noise cancellation capabilities or you’re otherwise spinning your wheels and wasting your time.
Battery Longevity
Long battery life and quick charging capabilities also come in very handy with these types of headsets. Why? Well, if you’re using a wireless headset you obviously don’t want to have to stop and charge it every half an hour. It would basically be worthless if this were the case.
And speaking of charging, you should look for the best over ear headphones under $200 with quick charging capabilities. Why? Every once in a while you’re going to forget to charge your headset. It’s only human nature and no one is perfect.
But if you have a headset that you can charge for five or 10 minutes and get two or three hours of battery life out of it, you don’t have to worry about making this mistake because you can correct the problem easily enough with a quick charge.
Stereo Quality Sound
Are you surprised to see stereo quality sound on this list? You shouldn’t be! The sound quality is the most important thing to consider when picking a headset like this. You want a headset that sounds amazing. You want stereo quality audio pumping through your eardrums to totally improve the overall listening experience.
Why purchase comfortable headphones only to find out that the audio quality stinks? That would be like flushing your money down the toilet and I obviously want you to make a great investment when purchasing headsets like this. Take time to check out the reviews and make sure previous users were happy with the overall sound quality.
