Epiphone PR-4E Guitar Review
If this is a first-time guitar buy for you, then what you need is to stay within your budget but with something that can hold up. The Epiphone PR-4E Acoustic Electric Guitar Package is just that!
For a starter package, it features everything you need to consider this a fantastic deal. We’re seeing the guitar, gig bag, and a 15 watt amp; clip-on tuner, shoulder strap, cable, and a pack of picks.
For under $300, everything is yours for the taking, including the built-in passive piezo pickup. The pickups work great for amplification with the provided amp.
The amp is an Epiphone Acoustic-15 with a 3-band EQ and on-board controls. You can expect volume, gain, bass, mid, treble, and a chorus switch.
The guitar itself is pretty decent for a laminated machine. It’s backed and sided with mahogany and a spruce top. The neck is solid mahogany, an excellent feature for an entry-level guitar in this price range!
When it comes to sound, the trebles and mids are strong and sonic. The basses are present, although, it’s not as forceful. However, it stays in tune, provides a realistic look at acoustic expectations, and it plugs in for amplified dynamism.
For a beginner, this fantastic acoustic electric guitar will more than set the stage for the rookie who will eventually crave more. Music magic is what it’s all about!
- Passive piezo pickup
- Mahogany neck
- Complete package
- Quality control issues
Epiphone PR-4E Reviews
When it comes to the buying score boards, it does extremely well. The complete package is definitely the major attraction for potential buyers since it provides everything you need all in one purchase.
But, it’s true that there are mixed feelings. The negative aspect of buying the Epiphone acoustic electric guitar is quality control. Some buyers received a defective guitar either with dead pickup systems, warped necks, and broken chrome tuning machines.
The biggest complaint about the Epiphone PR-4E is the fret buzz. While this guitar is definitely not the greatest for shedding, we don’t expect any newbies to be at this level anyway.
For the price, you’re getting great value for everything that’s thrown into the bundle. When you receive everything that’s advertised, you’ll be completely satisfied. Just make sure you check out vendor reputations before you commit to buying this Epiphone.

Alternative Acoustic Electric Guitars to Consider
Still under 300 dollars is the Yamaha FGX800C Acoustic Electric Guitar. It’s a beautiful piece with a solid Sitka spruce top. This price is for the guitar only, no extra equipment included. However, if guitar quality is what you’re after anyway, then this is a sweet deal. For more on this awesome Yamaha, check out what we have to say on the FGX800C right here!
To save you some extra dough and to maximize your cash savings, the Glen Burton GA204BCO-BK Acoustic Electric Guitar is a worthy buy. It’s another beginner’s package that has very few complaints about it.
It’ll be worth your time to check it out, especially when we’ve done the pickin’ for you.
Another package worth checking out is the Fender CD-60SCE acoustic-electric guitar bundle. We have had our say on the Fender CD-60CE Acoustic Electric that comes with just a hard shell case within the same price range as the Epiphone, but this package has everything else minus the amp.
