Spending your day scouring the net searching for Dolby Atmos headphones might not sound like your idea of a good time!

Heck most people would agree with you! But not me. I’m kind of an odd duck that way. I love researching and writing about products that interest me, as you can undoubtedly tell from this lengthy review.

My review process is simple to understand on the surface, but it certainly contains many moving parts and areas of focus. In this instance, I’d say the biggest and most important area to focus on is surround sound capabilities.

You want a pair of headphones that convey the ultimate surround sound experience. You want the audio to flow through you, like you’re actually a part of the movie, TV show, or video game that you’re enjoying for entertainment purposes.

So the headphones shared today all possess awesome surround sound capabilities and they kick ass in that regard.

But I also look for other things that are just as important. Some other areas I focus my reviews on include:

  • Battery life
  • Device connectivity
  • Bluetooth tech
  • Compatibility
  • Wired/wireless
  • And more

1. Sony MDR-HW700DS Wireless Headphone – Best Overall

Sony MDR-HW700DS Wireless Headphone 100-240V (Japan Import)
  • Driver unit: 50mm (CCAW voice coil adoption) / Reproduction bandwidth: 5-25,000Hz / Power supply: Built-in lithium ion chargeable battery

The Sony MDR-HW700DS Wireless Headphone is the overall favorite because it has 12 hours of battery life with a built-in lithium ion rechargeable battery.

✔️ What we like: HDMI and stereo pin jack connectivity

❌ What we don’t like: Difficulty connecting to certain TVs

Standout Features

  • Wired device
  • Trusted name brand
  • Long battery life

The MDR-HW700DS headphones from Sony are my favorite choice because they provide a surround sound experience with Dolby Atmos quality that makes it so easy to enjoy my favorite TV shows and movies every day of the week.

I love kicking back and watching movies with intense soundtracks like Star Wars, Braveheart, Indiana Jones, or any other action movie with heart pounding music that get your blood pumping, your body moving, and your mind racing all at the same time. You get to enjoy intense high quality audio and more with these headphones.

Besides the penetrating and incredible sound, these headphones are wired and wireless, depending on how you like to connect to your favorite devices. They have a built-in lithium-ion rechargeable battery that lasts for 12 hours per charge, which is a long time to last for a powerful headset like this one.

Reviewers always seem to have complaints, so it shouldn’t surprise you to learn that one reviewer was upset because he couldn’t get it to connect to his LG TV. Another reviewer didn’t like these headphones because it doesn’t have a built-in microphone.

The connectivity problems certainly stink but it happens from time to time. The lack of a built-in microphone shouldn’t be an issue because Sony never claimed to have one in the first place, so this reviewer is just picking at scabs for no reason.

Overall, I really appreciate the Sony MDR-HW700DS Wireless Headphone because of its awesome Dolby Atmos sound quality, the wireless and wired capabilities, the long battery life, and all the other exciting bells and whistles.

2. Corsair Void Pro Gaming Headset – Best for PC

  • Microfiber mesh fabric and memory foam provide exceptional comfort. Connector USB Type A

The Corsair Void Pro Gaming Headset is the best choice for PC gamers because it’s comfortable, durable, and possesses intense Dolby Atmos 7.1 surround sound.

✔️ What we like: Custom tuned 50 mm neodymium drivers

❌ What we don’t like: Microphone stopped working after extended use

Standout Features

  • LED light battery indicator
  • Low latency wireless audio
  • Legendary Corsair durability

Everyone wants to have the ultimate PC gaming experience, right? You want to strap on your headphones and hear surround sound while playing your favorite fighting games, wargames, or any other game of that nature.

When you put on your headphones you want to hear the wind whipping through your hair in the middle of a racing game, or the bullets whizzing by your ears the next time you play Call of Duty. You can experience this and so much more with the Void Pro Gaming Headset from Corsair.

Besides the powerful Dolby Atmos surround sound, you’ll also appreciate the microfiber mesh fabric and memory foam ear cups. They are incredibly comfortable and fit perfectly over your ears to make it very easy to experience long gaming sessions without feeling pain or an overwhelming sense of annoyance that you might get when wearing headphones for a long time. These comfortable headphones can sit on top of your head for hours without you feeling any unwanted discomfort whatsoever.

The Void Pro headphones have one major flaw according to one reviewer. He said that after using these headphones pretty regularly the microphone stopped working. Now I don’t know how many months it took before it broke, but it sounds like these headphones got a lot of use before the mic finally crapped out.

He could contact the manufacturer for a replacement if the headphones are under warranty. Or he could realize that he got his money’s worth from these headphones and buy a new pair or move on to another company altogether.

I have no problem recommending the Corsair Void Pro Gaming Headset because of their great durability, the comfort, the long battery life, and the impeccable stereo sound that makes PC gaming s more fun and pleasant experience.

3. 1MORE Gaming Headphones – Best for Gaming

1MORE VR Gaming Over-Ear Headset with Mic, Super Bass 7.1 Stereo Surround Sound, Dual Mic Noise...
  • 7.1 stereo surround sound with super bass vr shock wave, exceptional audio fidelity to hear more and react faster

The 1MORE Gaming Headphones are the best for gaming because of the 7.1 stereo surround sound and the PC, P4, Xbox One, and smartphone connectivity.

✔️ What we like: Easily connects to all major gaming consoles and devices

❌ What we don’t like: Broke on the first day

Standout Features

  • Lightweight and durable design
  • Environmental noise cancelling
  • Super bass VR shock wave

It’s always easy to recommend gaming headphones from 1MORE because they create such high quality products. In particular, I like these gaming headphones because they connect to all of my favorite gaming consoles and devices like my PS4, my Xbox One, my PC, and they even connect to my smartphone which is really great.

And the sound quality is so good because it uses 7.1 channel surround sound and Dolby Atmos audio for a truly amazing listening experience. It seems like the audio is surrounding you every step of the way, and it almost feels like you’re in the middle of the video game because you have explosions going on around you, conversations taking place in your ear, and crazy chases and races all happening in real-time pumping through your headphones that make the gaming experience truly incredible.

It’s nearly impossible to impress everyone to the same degree that others are impressed. And in this case it’s rightfully so because one person bought these headphones, hooked them up to his favorite gaming device and they basically broke and totally stopped working within a short while on the same day.

This is a no-brainer to me but it isn’t obvious to everyone all the time. You have to contact the manufacturer, tell them what happened, and get a replacement. They will absolutely send you new headphones if your pair breaks the on first day you buy them.

At the end of the day, I feel confident recommending the 1MORE Gaming Headphones because of their lightweight, durable, and comfortable design, the vivid LED display, the wired connectivity, and the 7.1 channel surround sound Dolby Atmos preferred audio and noise cancellation technology.

Razer Tiamat 7.1 v2 Gaming Headset: Dual Subwoofers - Audio Control Unit - Rotatable Boom Mic -...
  • True 7.1 Surround Sound: 10 discreet drivers, 5 in each ear cup, deliver pinpoint positional accuracy

The Razer Tiamat 7.1 Headphones are the most affordable top choice because they deliver 7.1 Dolby Atmos surround sound from dual subwoofers for fierce gaming sounds.

✔️ What we like: Gaming headphones that connect to all major audio devices

❌ What we don’t like: Stereo setting sounds like its underwater

Standout Features

  • Digital microphone
  • Unique headband construction
  • Premium comfort and durability

The thing I like most about the 7.1 Razer Tiamat headphones is their ability to connect to so many different types of devices. They are perfect for PC gaming, which is great, but you can also connect them to your TV, your smartphone, or your videogame systems as long as they are connectable by 3.5 mm audio jack or USB port.

This means you can use these headphones to chat online; use them to chat while playing your favorite video games, or listen to your favorite music or TV shows on your stereo TV or smartphone. The choices are seemingly endless for such an affordable option.

But that’s not all, because they’re also incredibly durable and comfortable. They were designed using ergonomic engineering, which means the weight is evenly distributed and balanced which cuts down on the clamping force. Plus the materials used are soft and comfortable, so you can put them on top of your head or over your ears for many hours in a row without feeling any type of major discomfort whatsoever.

Unfortunately one reviewer had a negative experience with these headphones. He turned on the stereo setting and he said the surround sound made it seem like he was listening underwater. He also mentioned that the surround sound isn’t going to work very well if you’re using a PC motherboard with analog sound. You have to get access to a much better sound card or the listening experience will suffer.

I really like the Razer Tiamat 7.1 Headphones because they are compatible with all of my favorite electronic devices, they have 7.1 Dolby Atmos surround sound, and the unique headband construction ensures balanced weight distribution and maximum comfort.

5. Plantronics RIG 800LX Headset

The Plantronics RIG 800LX Headset is our overall favorite Xbox One headset recommendation because of the long battery life and lag free wireless audio.

✔️ What we like: Wireless performance and 24 hours of battery life

❌ What we don’t like: After two months the sound cuts in and out

Standout Features

  • Xbox One compatible
  • 40 mm drivers
  • Large noise isolating ear cups

There are so many great things about the RIG 800LX headphones that it’s hard to keep track of them all. I personally appreciate the flexible, durable, and lightweight headset because I have a tendency to get really pumped up while playing video games and I knock them off my head, or throw them to the ground, or potentially damage them even worse than that.

So I need headsets that are going to withstand my excitement and rage when video games drive me bananas, and these headphones definitely fit the bill.

Plus, the headphones are comfortable because they’re self adjusting and stable, and the 24 hours of lag free wireless audio is certainly a nice feature because I have a tendency to play video games for 12 to 16 hours sessions, and as long as I have a fully charged headset I know it’s going to last the entire time before I need to plug it in and charge it again.

One reviewer didn’t like these headphones after two months although he loved them at first. But he ran into connectivity issues after owning them for two months and he said the sound started to cut in and out and it wasn’t consistent any longer.

He may have bought a faulty headset or he may have unintentionally broken them, which is something that I am guilty of all the time. Regardless, he can always contact the manufacturer to find out if he can get a new headset for free. Depending on the circumstances, they may actually honor his wishes.

It’s my pleasure to recommend the Plantronics RIG 800LX Headset for Xbox One users because of the Dolby Atmos stereo surround sound, the master volume controls, the comfortable headband, the noise isolation, the built-in microphone, and so many other wonderful features.

6. RIG 400LX 3D Gaming Headset

The RIG 400LX 3D headset is the ultimate in quality and craftsmanship. It delivers Dolby Atmos surround sound, has simple controls, and carries high intensity sound.

✔️ What we like: Superior sound quality and comfortable design

❌ What we don’t like: Microphone broken after one month

Standout Features

  • Compatible with multiple consoles
  • Lightweight and comfortable design
  • 40 mm high-sensitivity drivers

The main reason I really appreciate the 400LX gaming headset from RIG is the ability to use it on multiple platforms. I have an Xbox that I really enjoy gaming on often, and I use it quite a bit. I also like to game on my PS4, and this headset plugs directly into the controller.

It also connects to my PC, my mobile phone, and my laptop because the connection is a 3.5 mm cable, which is universal for many devices.

Next, comfort is critically important. And with this headset, you feel comfort in spades. Why? It’s lightweight, very flexible, yet ultimately durable. So, it was designed to last, without feeling overly heavy on your head, therefore you can wear it for many hours without feeling major discomfort because it isn’t substantial enough to create unneeded pressure.

One issue I discovered is a previous customer said the sound quality of the speakers is awesome, but said the mic left a lot to be desired.

How so? At first, she thought the microphone was amazing, but after a month it stopped working. Obviously, it becomes impossible to communicate with your friends when your mic is broken. This doesn’t seem to be a regular occurrence across the board though.

All in all, I like this RIG 400LX 3D headset a great deal for many reasons that include Dolby Atmos sound quality, its simple controls, its lightweight and comfortable design, and the fact that it’s compatible with numerous gaming consoles, PCs, tablets, and laptops as well.

Bose QuietComfort 35 II Wireless Bluetooth Headphones, Noise-Cancelling, with Alexa Voice Control -...
  • Three levels of world-class noise cancellation for better listening experience in any environment

The Bose QuietComfort 35 II headphones are a next level option because of their world-class noise cancellation and Alexa enabled capabilities.

✔️ What we like: Easy Bluetooth connectivity

❌ What we don’t like: Firmware update ruined noise cancellation feature

Standout Features

  • Balanced audio performance
  • Noise rejecting dual microphone system
  • 12 inch USB charging cable

Like most people, you’re looking for headphones with Dolby Atmos capabilities because you’re interested in experiencing stereo sound from the comfort of your own headphones. These headphones deliver this stereo sound in spades along with other great features that you’ll truly appreciate.

As an example, one of the best features is the noise cancellation technology. Not only do you get to hear stereo surround audio pumping through your eardrums, you’re also going to avoid all of the background noise that could potentially disturb your experience.

This noise cancelling tech will successfully filter out all background noise so you can focus on the audio from your videogame, your favorite movie or TV show, or any other potential listening experience.

On a down note, one reviewer loved these headphones when he first got them. But then out of nowhere, Google Assist decided to initiate a firmware update without his consent. After the update, the headphones never worked the same again.

He said the ANC technology became noticeably worse and he could suddenly hear all kinds of background noises that he didn’t hear in the beginning because the noise cancellation tech no longer worked correctly. What a disappointment! But this doesn’t seem to be an issue for everyone. In fact, only one reviewer seems to have had this problem.

It’s my honor to recommend the Bose QuietComfort 35 II headphones because of the incredible stereo sound, the comfortable design, the easy to use touch controls, and the very convenient Alexa voice control features.

A Guide to Choosing Dolby Atmos Headphones

man wearing top quality dolby headphones

How do you feel about my recommendations? Does anything tickle your fancy? Or did I somehow miss the mark?

If you aren’t happy with my picks then you may want to look for suitable Dolby Atmos headphones on your own. I fully support your decision and I’m willing to help you along on your journey as well.

Believe it or not, you’ll need to focus on certain categories to find the right Dolby Atmos headphones. I’m going to tell you a little bit about the areas to focus on below besides stereo surround sound capabilities. That’s already a given since you’re researching Dolby Atmos headphones in the first place.

YouTube video

Comfortable Materials & Ergonomic Design

Have you considered the material that the headphones are made with? What about an ergonomic design? If you’re anything like me and many of the people that read my reviews, you’ll tend to wear headphones for many hours in a row without taking a break. If this is the case, you’ll want headphones that are comfortable and designed ergonomically so they’ll sit on top of your head all day and night without disturbing you or causing any type of unwanted pain or discomfort.

YouTube video

Battery Longevity

Although this isn’t a problem for every set of headphones because some are going to be wired, if you do choose wireless gaming or Dolby Atmos headphones, you should only buy the ones that have a long battery life.

Why? The answer should be very obvious but if you need me to spell it out for you I will. You’ll likely use these for many hours at a time. If the battery is going to run out in four hours, you’ll have to take a break and recharge them once or twice during the same session. This is irritating and unnecessary since many lithium-ion batteries last anywhere from 24 to 30 hours or more.

Noise Cancelling Technology

If you’re anything like me, you absolutely despise when background noise bleeds into your awareness while wearing headphones. You want to focus on the movie, the music, or the videogame and nothing more.

When you hear people talking in the background, or ambulance sirens blaring in the background when they drive past your house, or the noisy neighbor upstairs constantly stomping around during the day, you’re going to get mad. So find headphones with noise cancelling tech that blocks out these noises so they never interrupt your listening session again.
