Researching Skullcandy Earbuds
During the research stage, as I was picking the products to review, I had to think about what I was particularly interested in when sharing information about Skullcandy earbuds.
You see, not all earbuds are created equally.
Some are better than others in a wide range of categories including value, microphone, bass boost, and wireless capabilities. So I took it upon myself to focus on these areas and I found what I believe is the best representation in all four of those categories and reviewed each one of these earbuds.
But those categories aren’t the only areas that I considered. I also took earbud design, battery longevity, overall sound quality, device connectivity, whether or not they could fit smaller ear holes, and a wide range of other factors into consideration to make up the entire picture of each recommended earbud.
Overall, I wanted to review earbuds that excel in a wide range of areas and not just one specific category. So that’s why I chose the products represented today and the reason why I feel they are the best of breed as far as Skullcandy earbuds are concerned.
Take some time to read and learn about each one of the Skullcandy earbuds reviewed below.
You’ll learn a thing or two about each option and maybe you’ll even discover the perfect earbuds that fall in line with your specific preferences for this type of electronic device.
The Best Skullcandy Earbuds
1. Skullcandy Sesh True Earbud Review – Best Wireless
The Skullcandy Sesh True Earbuds are a particularly tasty morsel for anyone on the lookout for high quality earbuds incorporating the latest in Bluetooth wireless technology. They come fully equipped with a battery that lasts for 10 hours, a water resistance level at IP55 that resists dust, sweat, and liquid, an active assistant, a microphone, and more.
✔️ What we like: Wireless connectivity, long battery life, and sweat and water resistance
❌ What we don’t like: Crackling sound and syncing difficulties
- Bluetooth wireless technology
- Charging case
- Call, track and volume control
- Active assistant with microphone
- IP55 water, dust, and sweat resistant
There were a few reasons that propelled me to choose the Skullcandy Sesh True wireless earbuds. For starters, out of all of the Skullcandy earbuds that I looked at in the past little while, these were the best as far as wireless connectivity is concerned.
They incorporate top-of-the-line Bluetooth technology to make it easy to connect to just about every available Bluetooth device. Even better, the wireless signal strength is impeccable within about 15 feet of the device. If you go any further than you may run into Bluetooth connectivity problems.
The IP rating, also known as ingress protection, is IP55, which is really good for wireless earbuds such as this. What does this mean? It means that these earbuds can withstand heavy amounts of sweat, water if you get caught in a rainstorm, and dust. They will continue to work to the best of their ability even when these hazards attempt to ruin the overall experience. This rating means that protection is available from all of the dust, water, and sweat that you can throw at these earbuds.
On a sour note, a few reviewers complained about syncing difficulties. But if you read the reviews further, you’ll see that they only ran into syncing issues once they got too far away from their Bluetooth device. One reviewer walked all the way to the other side of the house and wondered why the connection was weak and crackling. As long as you keep the Bluetooth device close, you shouldn’t have too many connectivity problems.
As far as colors are concerned, these wireless earbuds are available in deep red, indigo, and black. They are lightweight and only weigh about 5 ounces and use three lithium polymer batteries. They sound great, they fit amazingly, and they even come with an exceptional two-year warranty.
One last thing: the Skullcandy Sesh True Earbud is also currently a top choice online
2. Skullcandy Indy True Wireless Review
Similar to the Sesh model, the Skullcandy Indy True Earbud has a wide range of exciting features including Bluetooth wireless technology, secure fit stability ear gels, sound pressure level regulation, 16 hours of battery life, sweat resistance, water resistance, and volume touch controls among other great features.
✔️ What we like: Long battery life, wireless capabilities, and sound pressure level regulation
❌ What we don’t like: Can only pair earbuds to one device
- Removable stability ear gels
- 16 hours battery life
- Sweat, dust, and water resistant
- Touch controls for volume, calling, and tracking
The best part of owning these earbuds is the removable stability ear gels. I personally love these things because they provide a secure fit within my ear holes so I never have to worry about the earbuds falling out or shaking loose while I’m jogging, jumping on my trampoline, or performing other outdoor or indoor fitness activities. These things stay inside my ears so securely that I never have to worry about them falling out and it’s awesome.
I also like that these earbuds achieve 95±3dB, which is pretty great because you get ample volume without having to worry about blowing out your eardrums. And when you combine this decibel level with the secure fit of the ear gels, it provides a measure of noise cancelling capabilities that you just don’t get with other earbuds of this type. It’s an appealing combination and one that I truly appreciate.
On the downside, some reviewers were unhappy because you can only pair these earbuds with one device at a time. Unlike other options that allow you to pair your earbuds with your iPhone and your iPad at the same time, you’ll have to un-pair and re-pair these earbuds whenever you plan to switch from one device to another. It’s slightly annoying but you’ll get used to it after a while.
Finally, I’m a huge fan of the Skullcandy Indy True Wireless Earbuds because they are dust, water, and sweat resistant with an IP level of 55. This means they can withstand significant amounts of dirt and liquid abuse while still delivering tremendous sound quality for all to enjoy.
3. Skullcandy Supreme Earbud Review – Best for Bass
The Skullcandy Supreme Earbud is my favorite choice because of its impeccable bass boosting capabilities. You really get to hear the bass thump through these earbuds and they also have a great fit, excellent earpiece design, a built-in microphone, an external remote, and excellent compatibility with many Bluetooth devices.
✔️ What we like: Excellent fit for ears of all sizes, booming bass
❌ What we don’t like: Choppy sound quality and faulty earbuds
- In ear canal earpiece design
- Bluetooth connectivity
- Connects with iPhone, Samsung, HTC, etc.
- Built-in microphone
- Call and track control
No products found.
One of the major reasons why so many people like these supreme earbuds is their noise isolating fit. They actually come with two additional ear gels that perfectly mold to the inside of your ear. These ear gels will keep the earbuds from falling out of your ears and they’ll also prevent noise from entering into the background. This provides a much more pleasant listening experience because background noise is never going to interrupt your flow while listening to your favorite music and audiobooks.
It also comes with a two-year warranty, which is really freaking nice. Let’s face it. Earbuds break all the time because we accidentally drop them, sit on them, step on them, or even put them through the washing machine. As long as your warranty is still active during the first two years, you can get yourself a free replacement pair no matter what type of stupid mistake you happen to make.
Some people complained that their earbuds were faulty and easily broke after a few months. Other reviewers said that the sound quality is choppy and cuts in and out at times. These complaints didn’t happen too many times so it doesn’t seem to be a regular occurrence with every set of earbuds. They may have bought defective earbuds by accident, which they could have returned for a new pair.
Other great features of the Skullcandy Supreme Earbud include the built-in microphone, the call and track control, and the noise isolating fit. Combine these flawless features with the others mentioned above and you have the ingredients for an awesome set of great sounding Skullcandy earbuds that you’ll truly love.
4. Skullcandy Ink’d Plus Earbud Review
The Skullcandy Ink’d Plus Earbud is an excellent low-cost choice below $15. It’s available in seven different colors including black, pastel pink, mint, cobalt blue, olive, moab red, and lavender and it has a noise isolating fit, a built-in microphone, and call and audio track control.
✔️ What we like: 2 extra sets of ear gels and a two-year warranty
❌ What we don’t like: Poor sound quality and loose cord
- Call and track control
- Built-in microphone
- Noise isolating fit
- Extra sets of ear gels
- 24 month warranty
First off, these Skullcandy earbuds are indeed special because they’re available in seven different colors. So you can buy multiple pairs since they’re very inexpensive below $15 per pair. You can get the red ones, the blue ones, the black ones, the olive ones, and basically have the perfect color to match every outfit that you own.
Or if you just don’t care about different colors, the built-in microphone is definitely a nice additional feature that you’ll appreciate. You can use it to talk to your friends on the phone or interact with them through video chat. Or use it to activate the call and track controls via voice activation. If you prefer, you can also control audio tracks and phone calls via the built-in remote control on the wire connecting the earbuds. It’s conveniently located for easy access.
One reviewer said that the cord was loose on his earbuds and they broke very quickly. He said the cord pulled right out of the earbud and the entire set of earbuds was useless after that. Since they offer a full two-year warranty, he likely returned them for a better made pair. If not, he missed the boat on this easy opportunity.
Another reviewer said the earbuds had poor sound quality. This may be true and she may have had a faulty device. I didn’t read any other complaints in this regard so I don’t want to completely sandbag this product and throw them under the bus because that’s unfair.
The noise isolating fit, the extra two ear gels, and all of the other great features make the Skullcandy Ink’d Plus Earbud an excellent product to own.
5. Skullcandy Strum Earbud Review – Best with Mic
The Skullcandy Strum Earbud is definitely one for the ages because of the supreme sound quality, the built-in microphone, the available external remote control, the two sets of extra ear gels and the noise size leading fit capabilities.
✔️ What we like: High quality audio sound and external remote control
❌ What we don’t like: Poor quality bass and faulty volume control
- Universal control
- Supreme sound
- Unique and flexible design
- Complete comfort and security
- In-line microphone
The Strum earbuds from Skullcandy are really great for a number of different reasons. I like the fact that they have a flexible design that’s really unique. The way they created these earbuds makes them fits securely inside of your ear canals quite comfortably, so you don’t have to worry about them constantly falling out. And you don’t have to worry about them hurting because of the formfitting gels.
The universal remote control is also quite exciting. On the wire connecting the earbuds, you can access the remote control and answer phone calls, adjust the volume, and switch between audio tracks without ever having to pick up your phone to make these changes.
Plus, you can use the in-line microphone to access all of the same features using voice commands. They have the best mic of any Skullcandy product that I’ve ever seen, so phone calls and video chat sound quality is amazing.
One reviewer complained that the bass wasn’t of the best quality. He felt like it was a little too low for his preference and would’ve preferred earbuds with more of a boom. Another reviewer said the volume control on the universal remote was faulty. Maybe this is true but it doesn’t seem to be a regular occurrence so he probably purchased a faulty device.
Generally speaking, the best thing about these earbuds besides the great fit is the fact that they utilize supreme sound to enhance your audio listening pleasure. The sound quality is excellent and it’s rich, dynamic, and you’ll really appreciate listening to your favorite tunes, audiobooks, and podcasts while you’re on the go or hanging out at home.
At the end of the day, the Skullcandy Strum Earbud really is a great choice. Besides the fact that they have an incredible fit, they have a universal remote, they’re available in three different colors and Skullcandy provides extra ear gels and the best built-in microphone that money can buy, which makes these even more valuable below $30 per pair.
A Guide to Choosing Skullcandy Earbuds
Are you the adventurous type that prefers to choose their own products? Maybe you like to take some time to read about different Skullcandy earbuds reviews but ultimately want to make the final choice yourself. You certainly have the right and prerogative to decide on the earbuds best suited to meet your needs without any outside input whatsoever.
But do you know what to look for when choosing new earbuds? Or are you relatively new to the selection and options available from Skullcandy? Either way, I’d like to make your selection process a little bit easier by sharing information about the areas you should focus on when choosing new Skullcandy earbuds.
As an example, let’s say you’re tired of having background noise bleed into your awareness while using your earbuds on public transportation. This can get very frustrating and it might become a major problem if you cannot hear your favorite audiobooks, radio stations, and podcasts.
Guess what? Earbuds do not necessarily incorporate noise cancelling technology into their design. But they do provide formfitting ear gels that will block out the noise from entering into your awareness while riding the bus, the train, or any other form of public transportation for that matter.
And this is only one area to focus on when choosing new earbuds. You also have to consider battery life, earpiece design, how they fit, and sound quality as well. To help you, we’ll dive into a few of these other categories in greater detail below.
When it comes to Skullcandy earbuds, the great thing about buying from this company is their name is synonymous with high quality products that you can count on and trust. So if you buy earbuds from them, you can automatically assume that the sound quality is going to be excellent.
But if you’d rather not assume, then you should spend time reading reviews online to get a better idea of how each earbud sounds.
Reading a description of a product is one thing. Gathering information from real-world reviewers is a whole other ball of wax. So focus on the reviews and make sure other users found the sound quality adequate when making your purchase pick.
Battery Life & Charging
If you’re choosing wireless Bluetooth earbuds, you’ll definitely have to consider battery life and charging into your thinking. Unlike over the ear earphones, Bluetooth wireless earbuds do not have the ability to stay charged for as long as the other options.
At best, you should be able to find earbuds that stay charged for about 12 to 16 hours, but you’ll have a difficult time finding ones from Skullcandy that last longer.
So definitely take battery life and charging capabilities into consideration as you look at potential Skullcandy earbuds to buy. You’ll be happy that you chose the best option with a long battery life especially if you commute.
Earpiece Design & Fit
Earpiece design and the way that they fit are also important areas to focus on as you search for the best Skullcandy earbuds. You don’t want to end up buying earbuds that are either too small, too big, or constantly fall out of your ears because they’re too loose.
The great thing about Skullcandy earbuds is many of their selections come with additional ear gels that allow you to mix-and-match sizes to find the best ones that fit perfectly within your ear canal. This will provide more comfort, greater noise isolation, and an overall better fit and experience.
